Who are Captain Glucose and Meter Boy?
Two live action comedic superheroes with no real superpowers. Think of them as a cross between Batman & Robin and The Incredibles. Their mission statement is to "Educate, Enlighten, and Entertain people with diabetes of all ages" and that's exactly what they do. Captain Glucose has Type 2 Diabetes as does the actor who plays him, Bill Kirchenbauer. Meter Boy, his sidekick, has Type 1 Diabetes, as does the actor who plays him, Brad Slaight. The diabetes superheroes are called upon by the "Commissioner of Diabetes" (played by Alan Thicke) to help educate people who are newly diagnosed with diabetes. What "Smokey The Bear" did for fire awareness, Captain Glucose and Meter Boy will do for Diabetes awareness. The two actors will also be available for personal appearances to promote the video and diabetes awareness in general.
What is the PSA they appear in?
A "Public Service Announcement". In this commercial, Captain Glucose and Meter Boy are called on by the Commissioner of Diabetes to help a citizen in distress. The commercial is comedic in nature, but also carries with it an important message that everyone should be made aware of. The PSA was recently filmed in Hollywood and is now in the final stages of editing. It will be ready for public viewing very soon.
When will the longer DVD/video be available?
The longer DVD/video is in pre-production right now and the script is already written.
Who are you making the DVD and PSA for?
When someone is first diagnosed with diabetes they are usually confused and overwhelmed with the news. This video will provide people with diabetes with some basic information about what diabetes is and how to deal with it. But unlike the dry and technical videotapes that are nothing more than a lecture, this video will do so in a fun and entertaining way. It is geared for people of all ages and covers both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
